The time I've spent playing games

Date: Thu Mar 05 2026

I recently requested my personal data from Hoyoverse just because I was curious, and one of the stats that they track is hours spent in game. I’ve come to learn that I had spent around 2068 hours just playing Genshin Impact. This does not include the hours I’ve spent playing through other Hoyoverse games and this kind of made me reflect on just how much of my life I had spent playing video games.

Of course, hobbies can take up a good chunk of someone’s life especially if they are passionate about the activity. There’s quite a few ways to see how much money has been spent on the hobby, but to find how much time is spent on the hobby is quite different and hard in many cases. However, this is not true for video games, especially those that are SaaS or platforms that utilize SaaS. For example, I had played many hours of video games on my computer, and by simply querying some APIs or requesting personal data, I can get the time I spent on many games (soemtimes the platform just shows it already). Here’s a few of the games I spent the most time in:

This is just a few of the games I’ve played a lot, with many others still unknown to me. And seeing these numbers, I thought that maybe I should be doing something else instead of playing these video games. And maybe I should, but I think a lot of my personality and my relationships and friends have been built on these numbers. Maybe not to the extent that I have spent, but I doubt people would trade in those hours doing what they had loved doing, and I agree. A lot of fond memories and happy times I can think of were spent playing video games. So yeah, these numbers will probably grow but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing.
